I attended the Basement Theatre
production of the British Drawing Room comedy - Hocus Pocus by Jack Popplewell.
The play is about identical twin brothers who lead diametrically opposed
lives. Simon is a vicar of a small
country church, while his brother Peter is a successful company promoter. Goodwill and creative accounting lead to financial
difficulties for both brothers. The
ladies in their lives propose a creative solution and the plot thickens as the
two brothers’ step into each others' lives and use their own talents solve the
problems of their twin.
They play was excellent.
I am always immensely impressed by the performances of our local actors
and actresses. This play was no
different. Robin Anderson-Forbes played
the Ross brothers and learned the lines for two parts. I enjoyed watching Jan Pulfrey in her debut
performance as Bella Newell – a warm-hearted striptease artist! I am looking forward to next year’s
performance already!
