Hocus Pocus

I attended the Basement Theatre production of the British Drawing Room comedy - Hocus Pocus by Jack Popplewell.  The play is about identical twin brothers who lead diametrically opposed lives.  Simon is a vicar of a small country church, while his brother Peter is a successful company promoter.  Goodwill and creative accounting lead to financial difficulties for both brothers.  The ladies in their lives propose a creative solution and the plot thickens as the two brothers’ step into each others' lives and use their own talents solve the problems of their twin.

They play was excellent.  I am always immensely impressed by the performances of our local actors and actresses.  This play was no different.  Robin Anderson-Forbes played the Ross brothers and learned the lines for two parts.  I enjoyed watching Jan Pulfrey in her debut performance as Bella Newell – a warm-hearted striptease artist!  I am looking forward to next year’s performance already!

A Shelburne Weekend

November 21, 2011 and I have finally stepped into the world of blogging.  I hope you will find my posts interesting.  I am sure they will develop over time.  Right now, I don't really know what to say!

We had a beautiful weekend here in Shelburne:  crystal blue skies, 14 degrees C and windy.  Saturday was a busy day.  We had a farewell breakfast at the Lower Ohio Hall for friends, Phil and Rita who are going to Australia and the UK for 3 months.   Lucky them! When we arrived the boys were thrilled to see the model train display.  It took all of their self-control and some gentle reminding for them not to grab the engines.  I had to explain that when men play with trains they are NOT toys.  My youngest, who is 5 could not understand that.

After breakfast the boys and I went on the Shop Shelburne Christmas Crawl and then out to the Christmas Bazaar and bake sale in Ingomar, where Santa arrived on a fire engine.  The kids had a visit with Santa.  S asked for Band Aids and M asked for a gun.  Not really sure why they would want those things.  The Band Aid request was pretty weird.   In the afternoon we went for a walk around Island’s Provincial Park where we collected sticks and pine cones for a Christmas craft.

Saturday Night a group of us went bowling at Swansburg bowling lanes in Shelburne to celebrate all the November birthdays.  I am a consistently terrible bowler, so I was really happy with 130 for the first game.  It took all of my effort and concentration to make 100 on the 2nd game.  More practice that’s what I need.
